How pleased was I, after getting a lovely job at eBay, to be told that I was going to go off to California for 3 weeks for training? Extremely pleased barely comes close. Ahh fond memories indeed, and I'm grateful to David Young, Chris Dorris, and Dom Paolo for helping me settle in and make me feel right home. Appreciate it, guys.

The first, and possible still best discovery was the Rock Bottom Brewery round the corner from my hotel. The best steaks ever, beer brewed on site, and waitresses that flirt and pout like there's no tomorrow! Seriously, top stuff. If you are ever in the neighbourhood of Campbell, near San Jose, check them out.

Guess I'd better also name-check the Pruneyard Inn and Trials Pub, in downtown San Jose. Oh and I know that the Golden Gate looks just like a bridge, but it really is something to behold. It is strikingly impressive, and doubly more so when its booming fog-horn sounds and rings across the bay. And the fog? John Carpenter didn't come close.

Couple of tips for spending time in San Jose though: 1. Don't rely on public transport, it won't help you. 2. Downtown San Jose is the world's dullest place during the hours of daylight.
