California, God I how I miss the place. Yes I know it's full of Americans but the West coast chaps do tend to be a lot more civilised that the yahoos from the mid-west or the hicks from down south. No offence, like. Seriously though, always a pleasure to visit, and this time I was fortunate enough to have the other kids from eBay's European / Australian / Taiwanese offices: Erik, Heino, Fabien, Mel, and David. Good times. There was work and there was play, not least my triumphant turkey (that's three strikes in a row, to you amateurs), and after a week's hard drinking a few of us decided to spend the weekend in San Francisco to do some much needed drinking. San Francisco is one of the few cities I have visited that I can genuinely say that I could see myself living in.
If memory serves, we stayed somewhere in the Russian Hill area in a particularly grubby little motel. There's a couple of pictures of the room that I had, and you can tell the decor is a little...... dated. Sadly one thing the photographs can't convey is that musty, mothball smell that you usually find at the homes of elderly relatives. Check out the picture of me in my cowboy hat too! Yeehaw!
